National Fallen Firefighters Memorial ServiceLowering the American Flag
Did you know that the law requires the American flag be lowered in tribute on only a few days each year? Quite appropriately, one of these days is the observance of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service.
On October 16, 2001, President George W. Bush approved legislation requiring the American flag to be lowered to half-staff on all Federal buildings to memorialize fallen firefighters. Public Law 107-51 requires this action to occur annually in conjunction with observance of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service.
Let your local media know that American flags across the country will be lowered on Sunday, October 7, 2007. This includes the U.S. Capitol and the White House, as well as buildings in your local community.
Remember to lower the American flags at your home, fire department, and business. Encourage your local community to follow the Federal Government's example. When you lower your flag this year, you will recognize the brave men and women who died protecting their communities from natural and manmade emergencies and disasters and those who carry on the proud tradition.
You may also want to ask your state and local officials to include lowering the flag in a proclamation recognizing the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Hello SPAAMFAA Executives and Chapter Newsletter Editors.
As your new "Silver Trumpet" Editor, I would like to invite your expanded participation with spreading "The Word", or " More Words" about your chapters in "Silver Trumpet". Currently, newsworthy information is gleaned from your newsletters and edited for publishing in ST. This is accomplished by reading your newsletter as hard copy and / or email attachment, deciding what is worthy of publishing and editing it as final copy. Sounds easy enough, not really, and you surely will agree.
I'm finding when local chapter editors write about their activities, it appears a few exclude valuable details. The missing details are required to properly cover your events, deaths and special interest articles, etc. in ST. Especially valuable is your event dates, locations and contact information.
So step up and "Spread the Words" about your chapter to all of our great SPAAMFAA chapters through our "Silver Trumpet". I encourage your emails, letters and phone calls with additional chapter information or just to chat. Please see my current publishing schedule to assist you with submitting information.
Executives, I'm especially counting on you to keep filling ST pages.
Keep up the great work, keep sending your newsletters and don't hesitate to contact me. Have a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year.
Many Thanks,
Kenneth C.
